"Prayer doesn't fit us for the greater work; prayer is the greater work."

-Oswald Chamber

We are commanded to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:16-17). Of all of the spiritual disciplines we are commanded to observe, the only one we are told to uphold without ceasing is prayer. This is the heart of what Chambers is alluding to in his quote. If God saw it fit to give us one command to do around the clock, it's safe to say that command is incredibly important to uphold.

Prayer is the labor; it is the battle. Rather than white-knuckling a solution to our problems, mustering up more gusto, or fighting our battles alone, Hebrews 4:16 tells us "with confidence draw near to the throne of grace." We serve a King who sits on the throne of grace and delights in our prayers, and in answering our prayers. Through prayer, he graciously grants us strength to resist temptation, courage to persist in the face of persecution, endurance to finish the race set before us (Hebrews 12:1-3), and discernment in the face of a complex decision. The fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) grows in us as we seek the Lord to make us more loving, joyful, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle, and self-controlled.

God tells us, "Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son," in John 14:13. Our God hears us cries and answers our prayers. God is glorified through the answering of prayer.

We would love to pray with you and we would love to pray for you.
